Heng Kim Nouem (Malteser International)
A HEALTHIER TOMORROW
Social health insurance in Cambodia has been established only recently.
At present it covers less than one percent of the population in Cambodia,
but already 13% of the population in the remote province of Oddar Meanchey.
There the NGO "Malteser International" runs the "Community Based Health Insurance" program (CBHI).
22.000 persons are already protected through their insurance membership, which costs only
around 4 US$ per family member per year.
Cambodian cameraman Lach Chantha, assistant Mong Sokun and M.E.T.A.
founder Nico Mesterharm follow "Malteser International's" CHBI promoter Heng Kim Nouem (28) through different villages.
Nouem introduces the audiences to important issues such as "Community Health Promotion" and "Health for Mothers and Children".
50 percent of deliveries still occur at home assisted by traditional birth attendants. In case of complications then help is far
away and difficult to get to.
"Malteser International" co-produced this 18-minute-long film in Khmer language with English subtitles.
Post-productions assistants were M.E.T.A. students Khut Sornnimul (18) and Veng Rachana (19) from the Department
of Media and Communication (DMC) / Royal University of Phnom Penh. The film is edited by Phan Yasi. The original
soundtrack has been composed and performed by Ouch Savy and Kong Boran, two music students of the NGO "Cambodian Living Arts".
